Boo! - DT Sarah-Jane

Hi Everyone,

I am a little bit excited about this weeks Mixed Media Monday! It's Halloween themed, I love Halloween! It is my favourite time of the year, I just wish here in Australia we would "jump on the bandwagon" so to speak and celebrate it with a little more than just kids in poorly made costumes knocking on doors of houses where they get turned away!

Well here is this weeks creation, I had a lot of fun making this spread there are just so many different elements that I have used on the page.

Doesn't it look great! I tried to use minimal colouring to make it look spooky using only black and the smallest amount of red ink for the blood spatters.

- Reeves Modeling Plaste
- Tim Holtz Layering Stencil (Gothic)
- Jo Sonja's Acrylic Glazing Fluid

Life - DT Sarah-Jane

Hi Everyone, well it's Monday so you all know what that means............

Mixed Media Monday Time!

This week I had a specific plan for what I was trying to achieve, but as usual it didn't turn out the way I had planned. After completing the background I was not overly happy with how it had turned out, it wasn't until I added a few more things that I ended up being happy with my work.

So here it is:

I cut lots of little butterflies using a Tim Holtz Die and glued them to the page before putting a layer of gesso over the top the hide the writing underneath. I then put a layer of Sky Blue paint over the top and layered that with Twinkling H2O's in Sunflower. It gave the background a green look to it and then I decided that it needed bright colours so I went hunting in my stash for something to make it brighter.

Here are a few close up pictures:

Materials Used:

-      Liquitex Gesso
-      Semco Acrylic Paint (Sky blue)
-      Twinkling H2O’s (Sunflower)
-      Canson Watercolour Paper
-      Ranger Matte Glue n Seal
-      Kaisercraft Background Stamp (Music Notes)
-      Kaisercraft Collectables (Secret Admirer – Doilies & Icons)

Dreams - DT Sarah-Jane

Hi Everyone, it's me again Sarah-Jane!

Here to share with you all my new Mixed Media Monday Art Journal Page.  As you know from my last post, I use an old dictionary as my Art Journal. Well this spread I had decided that I wanted to make the words on the page be a feature of the spread, so I left it showing and used clear gesso instead of white gesso.

So without further ado here is my newest page........

I do't have a very good camera, so I use the camera on my mobile phone therefore the quote is rather hard to see in this picture........ so here are a few close up photos so you can all read the quote and see all the little bits and pieces I have used.

The Quote reads "Let your dreams take flight."

I used some 3D Matte Gel with a stencil and then sprinkled some glass glitter onto the gel. Sadly the stars (which is what they were supposed to look like) do look much like stars and more like little clumps.

Materials List:

- Liquitex Clear Gesso
- Distress Ink (Black Soot)
- Prima Art Basics (3D Matte Gel)
- Prima Art Ingredients (Glass Glitter - Stirling)
- Project Life 6x4 Grid Card
- Papercraft Sticky Gems and Pearls
- Kaiser Fusion Marker (B02 - Cyan)
- Distress Co-ordinations Cardstock (Black Soot)
- Memory Box Stencil (Stars Starry Nights - 88537)
- Joy Crafts Dies (Feathers - 6002/0293, 6002/0292)
- Hot of the Press Inc Stamps (Feathers - HOTP1149)
- Mounting Foam
- Perfect Pearl Powder
- Mini Mister Bottle
- Prima Distressing Tool

Well thats all from me for another week, although I am trying out this weeks technique posted by Neha on Sunday so stayed tuned so see how I make it work for me. Also don't forget to check out my blog for more Artful Surprises.......

Caio till Next Time........

Remnants of a Past Life - DT Sarah-Jane

Hi Everyone, Sarah-Jane here!

This is my first gig on a design team and I really appreciate Neha for letting me be apart of her wonderful team. If you have not already read my bio then just a small introduction, I like to consider myself a Mixed Media Artist of sorts and today I am here to share with you all a new Art Journal Page created especially for this blog.

I love how the mixture of Aqua, Blue and Antiqued Bronze gives the background a Patina effect, I seem to use combinations of blue and brown in a lot of my work, which you will soon see more of in the future.

Remnants of a Past Life
I like to use old books prepped by tearing out pages and gluing pages together to add strength to them. This book is an old encyclopaedic dictionary.  If you look closely you can still see the dictionary words peeking through under the layers of paint.

Here are a few more close up pics of the background and focal piece:

Materials Used:

- Donna Downey 6x6 Damask Stencil
- Reeves Modeling Paste
- Liquitex Matte Basics Acrylic Paint (Bright Aqua Green, Ultramarine Blue)
- Distress Paint (Antiqued Bronze)
- Distress Ink (Vintage Photo)
- Jo Sonja's Acrylic Glazing Fluid
- Prima Tag Pad
- Tim Holtz Ideology Found Relatives
- Tim Holtz Ideology Word Bands - Observations
- Tim Holtz Ideology Long Fastners
- Wax Twine
- Muslin Fabric
- Metal Gears
- Cardstock (Light Brown)

Some of these items can be ordered from Neha at Auzz Trinklets n Krafts, and to see more of my work check out my blog Artfully Dangerous.

Well thats all from me for now, stay tuned for more of my work every week.
